Donated equipment

20.07.2022 | News

The handover of 10 new endoscopes took place today in the ITA premises, as part of the Halting Arms and Lawbreaking Trade – HALT project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has been implemented since February 2020 as a joint project of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) BiH and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with the general goal of further improving security within and outside the borders of the Western Balkans through targeted action aimed at improving the capacity of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the fight against the illegal trade in small arms and light weapons (abbreviation SALW). The handover was preceded by an inspection of the correctness of the equipment by a ITA representative, which was carried out last week at the premises of the equipment supplier.

Today’s donation by UNDP BiH represents the continuation of support within the HALT project in terms of further strengthening the capacity of the ITA, given that in the previous period UNDP BiH had already donated 12 endoscopes and 4 detectors for explosives and drugs through the aforementioned project. The total value of the equipment donated so far through this project is about 450,000 BAM, while in the coming period it is expected to procure and deliver additional specialized equipment for the needs of the ITA, with the aim of improving working conditions and more effectively combating the illegal trade in SALW.

The HALT project is financed by the Federal Republic of Germany, the United Kingdom, the Kingdom of Sweden, the Republic of France, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Kingdom of Norway through the Multilateral Fund for the Western Balkans, with the support of the European Union, and within the Roadmap 2024 initiative for the control of small arms and light weapons in the Western Balkans. The project activities are carried out in cooperation with the ITA BiH as the main beneficiary of this project, while other institutions or agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina are also included in a certain number of activities within the project.
